I am happy to list the very first madrone bowl to my shop. The madrone tree is my all time favorite tree with its unique characteristics and color. The trees rich orange and red bark naturally peels away as the tree matures revealing a satin sheen wood that feels smooth to the touch.
This bowl is a nice size to use as a small fruit bowl, serving bowl or even to display as a table centerpiece. Just be sure not to soup in this bowl! As you can see in the pictures it has a natural inclusion from where a branch once grew from the trunk of the tree. The natural hole is about 1/2" in diameter and adds unique character to the bowl.
This particular tree came from southern Oregon. The tree had fallen in a winter storm and I was fortunate to get my hands on a few logs. It is my hope to give the wood a second life as a bowl that can be used and cherished for a lifetime.
Diameter- 10 1/4"
Height - 2 3/4"
The bowl has been sanded smooth to the touch and finished with multiple coats of food safe walnut oil.
As with all pieces in my shop, no tree is ever harvested for the purpose of this craft. Instead, I find or am given the wood by arborists and homeowners who have already taken the tree down.
Bowl Care: "Oil once a day for a week, once a week for a month and once a month for a lifetime."
