One of my favorite small bowls that I have ever made is this personal size chestnut wood bowl. I cored the bowl blank from the inside of a much larger bowl blank that was turned into a salad bowl. I always imagined the two bowls would sell together but that was not the case. So now you get to have it!
This bowl has a lightweight feel with colorful figured grain with hints on orange, red and pink. It is always surprising how light the bowl is when I pick it up. It would be best used as a individual daily use bowl for all foods. Near the rim of the bowl I turned a bead, which helps to give a little extra grip when carrying the bowl around.
Unfortunately, I am not sure where this particular piece of wood came from. Someone dropped off a few nice chunks of this wood at a friend of mines shop a couple years ago. He was nice enough to give me a chunk but I never did get the history of this particular wood.
Diameter- 7 1/2 "
Height - 2 1/4"
The bowl has been sanded smooth to the touch and finished with multiple coats of food safe walnut oil.
As with all pieces in my shop, no tree is ever harvested for the purpose of this craft. Instead, I find or am given the wood by arborists and homeowners who have already taken the tree down.
