Here is a bowl from one of my favorite pieces of maple wood I have turned. I was given the piece of wood from my friend Tom in Newport, OR. The piece is somehow the perfect size for a personal size bowl that could also double as a serving dish. Either method, the wood has lovely figure that catches the eye. The grain is is so interesting that it could even be a piece that is displayed for aesthetics even though I always hope the pieces I make are put towards a utilitarian use.
Diameter: 9 1/2"
Height: 1 3/4"
The bowl has been sanded smooth to the touch and finished with multiple coats of food safe walnut oil.
As with all pieces in my shop, no tree is ever harvested for the purpose of this craft. Instead, I find or am given the wood by arborists and homeowners who have already taken the tree down.
Bowl Care: "Oil once a day for a week, once a week for a month and once a month for a lifetime."
